NSW Ports Asphalt Patching
Deep asphalt patching inside a working container terminal, rebuilt in four stepped layers to 220 mm and sealed at every perimeter.
Scope of works
This project involved deep asphalt patching at NSW Ports, including multi-layer pavement reconstruction to restore strength and durability in high-stress areas. Works were executed to strict specifications to ensure long-term performance under heavy port traffic conditions.
Works performed
Pavement removal and profiling
- Milled and profiled the outlined pavement areas to a total depth of 220 mm, with four stepped layers, as specified.
- Total removal area measured 65 m², with up to 36.5 t of asphalt and road base waste disposed of in compliance with environmental requirements.
Base preparation
- Exposed subbase material proof rolled to confirm compaction and load-bearing capacity prior to asphalt placement.
- Applied bitumen emulsion tack coat to each step and vertical edge.
Asphalt installation
- Supplied, laid and compacted AC14 A35P asphalt in four layers: layers 1 and 2 at 60 mm each, layers 3 and 4 at 50 mm each.
- Total asphalt placement up to 36.5 t.
Finishing works
- Applied hot rubberised bitumen seal to the perimeter of all patches upon completion.
- Works included all necessary equipment, labour and waste disposal.
Outcome
The repaired pavement sections now provide enhanced structural integrity, a smooth surface finish, and improved resilience to heavy-duty port operations. All works were delivered to specification, within schedule, and in compliance with NSW Ports operational requirements.
