What Is Bitumen?

Bitumen is actually the liquid binder that holds asphalt together, a thick black crude oil.

Bitumen is mainly used in paving and roofing applications.

A bitumen-sealed surface is a layer of bitumen sprayed and then covered with an aggregate. This is repeated, leaving you with a two-coat seal.

Asphalt is produced by mixing aggregate, bitumen and sand into a composite.

The thick bitumen can be mixed, as a binder, with gravel and crushed rocks, then applied to roads, runways, parking lots and foot paths.
